Description

Campbell County, Kentucky has two county courthouses in simultaneous use. One is located in Alexandria, the other in Newport. These marriage bonds were recorded in Newport, Kentucky, from 1861-1866. They were transcribed from the microfilm of the original documents.

Marriage bonds were a precursor to the modern marriage license. Often marriage bondsmen were related family members, usually relatives of the bride.
